A new role in Gemini AMPM's smoke control work. We are adding an experienced AOV specialist to the team: someone with real site time installing automatic opening vent and smoke ventilation systems in residential blocks and commercial buildings, who can design a system as well as fit one, and who can help lead the engineers working alongside them. The work is varied: new installs, upgrades, replacements of failed systems, commissioning and service, across London and the South East.

The work

  • Installation of AOV and smoke ventilation systems: stair and lobby vents, smoke shafts, roof vents and louvres, actuators, control panels, manual control points and firefighter override switches
  • Residential blocks and commercial buildings: common corridors, stair cores and lobbies in occupied buildings, alongside new-build and refurbishment projects
  • Design: survey the building, specify the system and produce the layout for new installs, upgrades and like-for-like replacements, working to BS EN 12101, BS 9991, BS 9999 and Approved Document B
  • Help lead the team on site: plan the work, set the standard, and bring on the fire alarm and ventilation engineers we are training into the discipline
  • Commissioning and handover, with cause and effect to the fire alarm agreed in-house with our own fire alarm engineers, and a certification pack the client can rely on
  • Service, fault-finding and remedials on existing systems to BS 7346-8, with plain-English reports for the Responsible Person

What we're looking for

  • Site experience installing AOV and smoke ventilation systems: this one is essential. Residential and commercial, from first fix to commissioning
  • Able to design as well as install: survey, system selection, layouts and scoping the job for a quote
  • Working knowledge of BS EN 12101-2, BS 7346-8, BS 9991 and BS 9999. Teal is our main AOV supplier, so experience on Teal systems is a real plus; other manufacturer training (SE Controls, D+H or equivalent) or experience under IFC SDI 19 is valued too
  • Experience leading or supervising engineers on site, or ready to step up to it. SSSTS or SMSTS useful
  • Electrical grounding (18th Edition or similar) and confidence with fire alarm interfaces
  • Clean UK driving licence; based within reach of London or the South East. ECS or CSCS card

Why here

Gemini AMPM is employee-owned: stay, and you own part of the company. The range on this page is basic salary, deliberately wide, because where you land in it depends on tickets, experience and patch; overtime, call-out and the van sit on top. Progression runs on the Academy ladder, and a human reads every application within three working days.

Tell us what you are worth: the target salary box on the form is there for a reason, and we would rather pay the market than pay an agency.
